This one week class focuses on the machining processes required to prepare components and also to cut joinery, with attention to every step from selecting the rough sawn timber, all the way through to completing the finished product. This includes understanding a cutting list, selecting the rough sawn material, safe set up and operation of woodworking machines required to process components, cutting and fitting joinery, glue up techniques and applying finish.
Students will make a pair of stools with the intention to complete as much as possible of the project using machines.
Processing multiple parts and repeated operations allow for lots of practise on the machines whilst encouraging consideration for efficiency and repeatability. There will be some hand tool work to ensure that perfect fit, and attention to detail with finishing techniques.
