We are offering an exciting Residency with renowned furniture maker, and tutor, Adrian Ferrazzutti. Adrian specializes in custom free-standing furniture, including casework, chairs, bent wood and veneer, and is well known for his striking aesthetic.

This residency offers six uninterrupted weeks to design and develop your own project with an emphasis on craftsmanship and a refined aesthetic. This is a rare opportunity to work alongside and learn from a highly respected expert.

This programme is intended for makers with some previous experience to work independently as woodworkers, but extensive previous experience is not necessary.
The Residency is focused on exploring and developing ideas and techniques rather than creating one finished piece. We ask participants to bring ideas that they might like to pursue and recommend they have an open mind to new directions. Though you are welcome to pursue a single idea, we strongly recommend that you take the time to look up from your own project and engage in the other learning opportunities presented around the room. You are not obligated to pursue a design and make, you are welcome to use the time to learn a range of techniques and explore new processes that interest you.

The programme will run with Adrian teaching morning sessions. The afternoons will be self-directed while Adrian works on his own project, giving a unique opportunity to see his design process and how he executes techniques. He will be available for occasional consultations at this time. Adrian will incorporate demonstrations and discussions throughout the programme as well as one to one consultation.

Through individualised guidance tailored to each student's project, the focus will be on the design process, prototyping, problem solving and finding the best techniques and processes to bring your ideas to life.

Adrian will help guide your project to identify key aesthetic details that can lead to reflecting the student’s individual style and the construction techniques that may be employed to best execute them.

Techniques, exercises and explorations:

• Design process

• Model making and mock ups and working drawings.

• Selecting wood for grain and figure

• Joinery considerations

• Adding other material to ones work

• Veneering and Parquetry techniques

• Laminating, Coopering, vacuum bending and beyond.

Class objectives:

Challenge students to think beyond conventional or expected norms.
Explore a range of techniques to enhance your making skills.

To create works that are exciting and perhaps not totally function driven.
To design and make on your own terms and not from plans.

• inspiration, design and techniques gained from smaller studies can inform larger furniture

• guide students through configuring repeatable techniques

WHO CAN APPLY ?

This programme is open to any woodworkers and former students who are confident enough with basic woodworking machinery to prepare their own materials as they require. Please contact us for advice.

Please note that applications received from both professional and non-professional makers will be given equal consideration.

If you are offered and accept a place on the programme you will then be required to pay a 25% non refundable deposit which will hold your place until the balance of the course fee which is due on 15th December 2026
