CFW Community Talks Series "The Making of David Haig"
Helen Gerry
8th August, 2025 - 7pm - 8:30pm
We’re excited to have David come to the school for an evening and share his experiences from his woodworking career.
David Haig is a Centre for Fine Woodworking Co-founder, Trustee, Tutor, and Mentor.
David Haig has been a full time furniture designer and maker for over 40 years. He works from a studio workshop at his home in Cable Bay, where he has lived with his family since 1980. He is strongly influenced by the intense beauty of his surroundings, and a Platonic philosophy that places a high value on connecting with creative archetypes. His work is an attempt to bring some of those qualities into the material world.
David has taught extensively in design and wood construction both at the CFW here in Nelson and overseas for the past 20 years. He was awarded an MNZM for services to woodworking in the King's coronation honours list last year.
