FRIENDS OF THE SCHOOL

The Centre for Fine Woodworking is a registered charity. Our charitable status was granted to us in recognition of our quest to preserve and pass on the time honoured skills to future generations of woodworkers otherwise these skills will be lost forever. We are the only school in not for profit woodworking school in New Zealand.

Much of what goes on behind the scenes here to create this very special place is due to a handful of people's absolute passion and belief in the school. The place just wouldn't be the same without the many hours of voluntary work and endless goodwill from the trustees (unpaid) and the core staff (who don’t earn a lot!). Those of you have been here in the workshop probably understand the uniqueness of our school - you've experienced the quality of the teaching and you have learnt from experts in their field who are passionate about sharing their knowledge.

As a charitable organisation, the school has not been immune from the economic disruptions of the past few years. Additionally, we are at a key decision point on school expansion, securing our current location and positioning the school for the next generations of woodworkers.

Most of all, we want to ensure the school flourishes and continues to be an internationally-recognised centre for fine woodworking. We believe you, as a part of our woodworking family, can play a vital role in achieving our vision.

  • Enrol in one of the many short courses offered during the year.

  • Become a member of the ‘Friends of the School’ programme through an annual donation of $200. This would assist us with operating and overhead expenses.

  • A larger donation or bequest of your choosing.

  • A donation or bequest to our vitally important scholarship programme which is focused on introducing young people to the craft of woodworking.

  • If you would like to make a one-off donation or contribute towards a specific piece of equipment or project then please do get in touch so we can discuss this further.

All donations can be filed with your annual tax return in order to receive a tax credit for your gift. A formal receipt will be issued as proof of your donation for the IRD.

Thank you for your support.

On my way home now after six weeks in Nelson for a fabulous woodwork course with an amazing group of like-minded people, guided by a woodworking Maestro from Canada. The place has such a beautiful vibe, the time just flew by and suddenly we were all gone back to our little corners of the world - America, Sweden, France, Australia and New Zealand. We are all now inextricably linked by our time together, learning, teaching and exchanging ideas in what has been called “The greatest little wood school in the South Pacific.
Long may these valuable connections endure”
