This hands-on course is suitable for absolute beginners, as well as experienced makers interested in exploring the possibilities of bending wood. Over four days, you’ll be introduced to three techniques: steam bending, hot pipe bending and bent laminations.

You’ll learn how timber selection, grain direction and moisture content affect the bending process, and gain practical experience preparing timber, making forms and using straps, steam-bending equipment, hot pipes and vacuum pressing. Through a series of practical projects and demonstrations, the course explores how these techniques can be used to create strong, graceful curves and free-form shapes in solid wood and laminations.
