This two–week course is designed for the intermediate to advanced maker and looking to stretch their design sensibilities.
Personalise a petite cabinet design with Churchill Fellow and Australian master designer/maker Evan Dunstone. Evan will work with you to individualise an elegant project with your own handle design, decorative panel elements, changes of level, elements of surprise and attention to detail. This course provides an opportunity to further refine and develop your maker’s “voice”.
Techniques covered in this class include:
Set a Brusso Knife hinge.
Making a traditional frame and panel door with a modern twist.
Making jigs for unique components.
Composing with grain and how to colour match for effect.
The art of Resawn veneering.
How to flute a panel efficiently.
Develop a personal approach to design.
Understand the "why" as well as the "how".
The art of efficient decision making.
Evan has trained many professional master craftsmen including Rolf Barfoed, Alex MacFarlane and William Bayliss. He has taught design and craftsmanship at the Australian National University, The Tasmanian School of Fine Furniture and the Sturt School for Wood.
Come and learn how Evan approaches the challenges of design, craftsmanship and self-expression, using the making of a small cabinet as the pedagogic tool.
