CFW
Furniture Makers’ Programme - 2025
I completed the FMP course in December 2025 at the Centre for Fine Wood Woodworking. What a year! This was not my first rodeo at CFW and I had done a few shorter courses there, and therefor had no hesitation to commit time and money for the opportunity and privilege of spending more time there. I was not disappointed. I absolutely loved my time there and was genuinely sad to say goodbye. What makes this place so special are the people who work there, and the culture of the place. The staff are incredibly dedicated and generous with their time.
The culture is non-competitive and supportive. The course is immersive, and each term builds on the prior one. I arrived thinking I knew a fair bit about woodworking. I left feeling competent but realizing I had so much more to learn. I still feel pride every time I look at the pieces I created whilst at the school and feel inspired to do more. It is a big commitment, but I would have absolutely no hesitation to recommend this experience.
Apart from the course Nelson is a fabulous town which despite its size, has many fine restaurants, arts and culture opportunities and great access to the outdoors.
